Underground Railroad

Social Studies for Kids   This has some good information. It may be easier to understand than Canadian Encylopedia.

Canadian Encyclopedia     The first few articles on this website (Underground Railroad, Harriet Tubman) are very informative. The video on the right of the search page is excellent because it gives you a visual idea of how slaves were hidden to cross the border between Canada and the United States. All of the information is trust worthy.

Scholastic website    Myths of the Underground Railroad has good information, and the Escape From Slavery –> Begin the Journey is an interesting ‘journey’. The information is very good — you can turn on the sound and the information can be read to you.

The following two websites may be more difficult to understand. Ask for help if you need it. The two websites go together.

1. Shanty Bay connection to the Underground Railroad

2. However … This Wikiepedia article (and others) suggests early black settlers were free men and not ‘travellers’ on the underground railroad
